What is Granny Cake?

This Grandma Cake is an old-fashioned moist cake made from scratch with canned pineapple and peaches mixed inside the cake.  The baked cake is then topped with a made from scratch coconut frosting, which makes this cake irresistible. 

Sometimes I’ll mix things up and use a can of pineapple and a big can of tropical mixed fruit.

Need Granny Cake Without Pineapple?

Granny cake is easily customizable.  Leave out the pineapple.  Use a can of peaches and a can of mixed fruit.

Granny Cake is a Family Favorite

This is my husband’s favorite cake because it reminds him of a cake his grandma used to make for him when he was a kid.  My son goes crazy for this cake too, I don’t know, it may be a man thing?  One of my daughters loves this cake too.

This Cake Doesn’t Contain Oil or Butter

The cake itself doesn’t contain any oil or butter, so I like to tell myself it’s healthy to eat.

This Easy Cake = Dump, Mix, and Bake

The cake goes together easily.  I dump all the cake ingredients into my KitchenAid mixer and mix it until it’s all blended and then pour into a cake pan sprayed with Pam.  If you don’t have a KitchenAid mixer you could use a hand mixer.

Granny Cake with Pineapple and Peaches

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Total Time: 50 minutes

Moist delicious "Granny Cake" filled with pineapple and peaches. YUM!

Ingredients

  • GRANNY CAKE INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 cans DRAINED canned fruit, I recommend pineapple and peaches
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • FROSTING INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup sweetened coconut flakes
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk

Instructions

  1. Cake Instructions
  2. Set oven to 325 degrees.
  3. Combine all the cake ingredients into kitchenaid or mixing bowl. Mix well. Transfer to a 9x13 cake pan sprayed with non-stick spray.
  4. Bake 40-45 minutes.Frosting Instructions
  5. Combine all the frosting ingredients into a sauce pan. Bring to a boil and boil for two minutes. Pour frosting over hot baked cake.

How to Make Granny Cake From Yellow Cake Mix

Gently mix yellow cake mix with two eggs and one can of (any type of) pie filling.  Pour into a 9×13 cake pan.  Bake at 325 for 25 to 30 minutes.  Frost with the frosting on this page –  Granny Cake with pineapple – coconut frosting.
